Your Monthly Meeting Reminder
This Saturday our monthly meeting will take place at Quiet Waters Park at 9:00, not at Maryland Hall. Why meet at the park? The thought was to turn a conflict of schedules into an opportunity. Art@the Park is a two day event that the club has participated in many times and will probably continue to do so in the future. In keeping with one of the missions of Chesapeake Woodturners to promote the art of woodturning, the club conducts many demonstrations each year, with this being one of those.
Those of us who have demonstrated before know how nice it is to connect with the public and to give them some insight into the world of woodturning. I have always enjoyed my exchanges with the folks who watch in awe as we do what we do. Our participation consists of some members turning small, quickly done items while others are interacting with the people who stop by to watch and ask questions. A lot to do for everyone.
So, the opportunity as I see it is (1) a chance to promote woodturning and our club, (2) to give the public a preview of our upcoming Quiet Waters' show, and (3) for members to get some very low stress experience demonstrating. If you have never demonstrated before, come see what we do. When you feel comfortable enough, take a shot and turn for five or ten minutes. I bet you will like it. And on that note, we still need a few folks to demo on Sunday afternoon. Contact Lou Rudinski if you can help out.
The topic this month is "Demonstrating" - bring some wood and some tools and take a turn turning. 9:00 - 11:00.
I do not plan on conducting a business meeting at Quiet Waters Park. Instead I will have a handout available with our standard business meeting reports.
Remember, Rich Foa is accepting items for the "Form and Fabric" show until the November 21st meeting. I will have release forms available on Saturday for anyone who needs one.
