A Message from Grill Master and Raffle Huckster, Bill Kost
Well, it's that time of year again. Time to get our next year started, and to meet up with our Woodturning buddies after a few months off. The Turnout annual picnic will be at Lou Rudinski's place again this year, starting at 11:30 a.m. on August 15th. It is located in Kinder Farm Park, off Jumpers Hole Road. The address is: 146 GALI SANCHEZ ROAD, 21108 . As you enter the park, turn left before the Gatehouse, proceed to the last parking lot, past all the sports fields, look for signs to park on the lawn area behind the brick house..
For the newer people, we will have grill items available. Grill items will include hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, chicken and the buns to go with them. The club supplies all this. We ask that each attendee bring either a side dish, a dessert, or sodas and water (enough to cover 6 - 8 people). If your last name starts with A - G, bring a side dish. Last names from H - O should bring a dessert, and the rest, last names of P - Z should bring sodas/water. The club will supply ice, plates, cups, plasticware and condiments.
We will also have a table set up for Show and Tell items. Bring your latest masterpiece, and be prepared to talk about it.
And, again, we will have the infamous Chesapeake Woodturners raffle. Here is how it works: Each person donates an item(s) to the raffle. (this can be a turned item, an old tool, books, wood, blanks, or anything creative). We will place a cup next to each item, and we will sell tickets for $0.50 each. If you want to try for a specific item or items, you put a ticket (with your name on it) in the cup. At the end of the day, we pull one ticket from each cup, and that person will win the item. It is a lot of fun, and most everyone goes home with something. (there is some strategy here - put more tickets in a cup to increase the odds of being chosen, and cups with very few tickets in them can be won with only a ticket or two).
If you missed Margaret And Lou Lospinuso's wood give away, don't fret. Please see the attached photo of wood kindly donated for the raffle by Paul and Tracy Adams. You might want to bring your pickup truck .
So plan on joining your woodturning friends on Saturday, August 15th. And remember to bring:
1. Food item
2. Donated item for raffle.
3. Show and tell items
4. Wallet and money to buy raffle tickets.
Our new President, Tim Moore will conduct a short meeting also, Lou will talk about the upcoming schedule.
We will have a guest from Howard County Recreation and Parks to discuss an offer of wood of historical significance in return for turned items. (pens, etc.)
