Chesapeake Woodturners

17 August 2024 Meeting

CW’s annual picnic, also known as the Turnout, will be held at Lou Rudinski’s this year, starting at 11:30 am on Saturday, August 17. Lou’s house is in Kinder Farm Park, off Jumpers Hole Road. The address is: 146 Gali Sanchez Way, Millersville, MD 21108. As you enter the park, turn left before the gatehouse, and proceed past all the sports fields to the far end of the last parking lot. Park on the lawn near the brick house on the right.

The club will supply boneless chicken breasts, hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, buns, fresh steamed corn, ice, plates, cups, plasticware and condiments.

We ask each attending member to bring either a side dish, a dessert, sodas or water (enough to for 6-8 people).

This year, if your name starts with

We will have a table set up for Show & Tell items, so some of you will want to bring your latest effort and be prepared to talk about it.

We will, by popular demand, also have Tim Moore's annual Chesapeake Woodturners auction/raffle. Here is how it works. Members donate an item or items to the raffle. This can be a woodturning tool, wood blank, or anything else related to woodturning/woodworking. The highest value items (including some from Ken Lobo’s estate) will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Everything else will be raffled. Tim will put a Solo cup next to each of these items and sell raffle tickets for $.50 each. If you want to try to win a certain item or items, you’ll need to put one or more of your tickets in its cup. Be sure to bring a pen so you can write your name on the back of all your tickets. Later, one ticket will be pulled from each cup and that person will win that item. It's a lot of fun and almost everyone goes home with something(s). The more tickets you put in a cup, the better your odds of being the winner.

Start poking through your shop now to find something (or several things) you’d like to donate to the raffle

Don’t forget to bring a handful of cash too.

All proceeds from the auction/raffle go to the club.

As usual, I’ll need several volunteers to make everything work like it’s supposed to.

So please reply to this email and let me know if you’d be able to fill one of the roles in bold below:

I’ll need at least:

Hope to see you there!
